Philips Lighting transformed the façade of County Hall with their powerful and flexible LED colour-changing floodlights. The famous London landmark glowed in a rainbow of colour as the lighting control system put the LED fittings through their paces.

23-03-2007 A complete refurbishment of this two hundred year old grade II listed building has put the elegant George Hotel, situated in the heart of the city, back on the map. Whilst the main hotel has retained many of the original architectural details, most of the 195 bedrooms, many with views of Edinburgh Castle or the Firth of Forth, have been transformed and given a contemporary new look.     more...

Capturing the Heritage of Hackney

23-03-2007 Holophane commissioned us to photograph the recently refurbished Hackney churchyard gardens. St-John-at-Hackney has survived as on open space since medieval times and witnessed many layers of history but in recent years has suffered from vandalism and neglect. Since the area has been re-lit it is once again used at night as a pass through route by local people, due to the highly effective new lighting installation. Our brief was to capture the very uniform lighting effect and higher light level, including people in the shots to add scale and human context to the pictures.     more...

Top Tip of the month

23-03-2007 High Dynamic Range Imaging
This software technique can illustrate a range of brightness variations in one photograph, which is particularly important for lighting installations. For example, a correctly exposed photograph of an office interior would generally show the light fittings to be very bleached out with little, if any, detail. An HDR image will show the office interior correctly but will also reveal greater detail in the luminaire itself. The software is quite complex to use at first and we have found that further work is needed in photoshop to really bring out the best of the HDR images but the effort is well worth while as the final results look very effective.
